About UCLan

The external perception and academic credibility of any University is determined by the quality of its research output. As one of the largest modern universities in the UK, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) recognises research as one of its most important defining characteristics and the institution is committed to maintaining and growing a productive, well resourced and internationally competitive research community.

As a result of this tangible commitment to its research, the University has over the last few years increased substantially the volume of its external research grant funding. Innovative research is being supported financially from an increasingly wide range of sources including the Research Councils, the European Union, the National Health Service, Industry and Government at regional, national and international levels. Without a doubt, academics at UClan are making a vital contribution to disseminating research and global knowledge and helping to shape the world beyond academic life.

‘academics at UClan are making a vital contribution to disseminating research and global knowledge and helping to shape the world beyond academic life’

UCLan researchers contribute to advancing knowledge and understanding in a diverse range of subjects in science and engineering, including pharmacy, forensic science, advanced manufacturing, physics, chemistry, mathematics and materials science, often working in collaboration with colleagues from other academic and service departments nationally and internationally.

Our research community is vibrant, expanding and well resourced, offering a future that is rich with promise.
